I'm sure everyone is aware of the two less-than-sensitive protests which have taken place this week: the burning of poppies in Kensington, and the student demonstration-turned-riot at the Millibank Tower.

Whilst neither of these protests were conducted with any level of finesse, it is important for us all to remember that these groups of people do not represent their respective demographics accurately, and as such, they were acts of individuals rather than organisations.
The act of poppy burning was nonetheless disgusting. Armistice Day bears little relevance to the conflicts around the world today; it is a commemoration of the end of the First World War, and the two minute silence is a sign of respect for roughly 20 million people who died in the war.
As for the student protests, although they were conducted in entirely the wrong fashion, they had much stronger moral backing. If student fees are increased as much as the Conservatives propose, then it is going to be a bleak future for those of us who fit into the working class. It's just the start, the rich will look after the rich, and the rest of us will be left hung out to dry.
